2014 Honda Civic Review: Old Habits Return

The latest Honda Civic was launched last year and it has failed to make it big on the global stage. The car is a lot like its predecessors except for some subtle upgrades here and there. Even the design of the new Civic looks dull and boring.

This is disappointing really as many thought that Honda has ditched the old-man’s carmaker identity after launching several great vehicles in recent times. Now, it is as if the Japanese carmaker has returned to its old habits of producing boring cars.

There is so much wrong with the Honda Civic, most particularly with the lack of driving enthusiasm. Getting behind the wheels of the Civic now feels unstable and groggy. Also, there are now many new technologies added to the car and while it does offer more driving convenience, it made the Civic feels more boring than ever.

No matter how bad the latest Civic is, we have to praise the 1.4L and 1.8L motors since they are able to blend a decent power output with an extraordinary fuel mileage. The standard 1.6L i-DTEC model, in particular, is able to offer and impressive 78.5mpg while being paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
