Last year, Honda launched the all-new Accord and it automatically became a huge success. Then there is Hyundai that has promised to produce a new-generation of Sonata that can rival the Accord. Well, the new Sonata is released already and today we shall see if Hyundai is being truthful.
After testing out both vehicles, the first difference we noticed is with the fuel consumption rate. Apparently, the latest Sonata is still a hair behind the Accord’s mpg. The former can achieve up to 35mpg while the latter can manage 36mpg at best.
Then there is the handling of both vehicles. Apparently, the Sonata is unable to offer a smooth sailing experience. The Accord, on the other hand, is finely tuned to take on the curbs and bends with ease.
Both mid-sized sedans might come with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine and 185hp but the Accord still has 3ft-lbs more torque than the Sonata. Yet again, the South Korean vehicle fell short of the Accord’s standards.
With the Hyundai Sonata valued at $32,385, it is also more expensive than the $30,385 Honda Accord. Clearly, more work needs to be done by Hyundai if they ever wish to compete with their Japanese counterpart.
