US HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Delay Apologies In Order

HTC had hoped to get the KitKat update out onto the HTC One within 90 days of Google releasing the update. To do this they would have to get the update rolled out to the handset by January 31st.

It doesn’t look like they will be able to keep to their schedule as a letter from the HTC American president Jason MacKenzie tells us it’s not going to happen. While the letter was a long one, there is a single important bit that relates to the release. This is as follows:

“We are currently in the certification phase across all of our carrier partners in North America, and they share our enthusiasm for getting this software in your hands. That said, the software development process does not always follow a linear path and we know today that we will miss our self-imposed target. The good news is that we won’t miss by much as, it shouldn’t be more than one to two weeks to complete each of the carrier versions of the HTC One.”

Of course a wait of one to two weeks is not all that long. Another thing to consider is that the company do seem to be taking updates seriously and they do keep people up to date. Let’s face it there is nothing better than a long winded letter of apology on the company’s website as a way of an apology to handset owners.
