Word has already spread that Jeep has commenced production for the next-generation Wrangler and it is expected to make its debut in late 2017 as part of the carmaker’s MY2018 line-up.
The rumours are indicating that the future Wrangler will be powered by a newly-developed 3L EcoDiesel V6 engine. The motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. If so, then it will be a rare event in history when the diesel mill gets mated to an 8-speed gearbox.
When Jeep’s CEO, Mike Manly, got questioned on the matter, he simply revealed that it has always been the company’s vision to make diesel as the primary source of power. The lad added that before this, they couldn’t come up with the right kind of 3L EcoDiesel but now, it’s a different scenario.
Of course, the switch to diesel will finally see the future Wrangler being recognized as a fuel savvy vehicle. Otherwise, they are massive fuel drainers that should be avoided at all times.
