2014 Subaru Legacy Review: The Unsung Sedan

The latest Subaru Legacy might not be as popular as a Honda Accord but it at least deserves more attention from the world. Yes, it may not look impressive due to the lame design but in terms of reliability, the Legacy can be said to be the most affordable AWD mid-sized sedan out there.

Under the hood, the Legacy runs on two BOXER engines. The base model is powered by a 2.5L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder motor that produces 173hp and 174lb-ft torque. As for the premium model, consumers will find thee 3.6L 6-cylinder engine that produce 256hp and 247lb-ft torque, resting under the hood. The car recorded a disappointing 8.4L/100km.

There are 7 different trim lines to choose from and they are identified as the 2.5i, 2.5i Convenience Package, 2.5i Convenience Package with PZEV Option, 2.5i Touring Package, 2.5i Limited Package, 2.5i Limited Package with EyeSight Option, and 3.6R Limited with EyeSight Option. Prices start at $23,495 and ends at $36,195.

The Legacy can be said to be a general car. At times, you get the sports feel while at other times, you get comfort. The sedan simply wants to offer everything. Then again, the zero focus on particular specs meant that everything is off the mark. The power is decent but not great. The good thing about it is that the steering can be really precise.

It is unfortunate to see that the Subaru Legacy has no direct rivals. It is like the Legacy is a class on its own. Then again, there are many other cars that are better choices than the Subaru but not cheaper.
