[PICS] Source 2 Engine In Action Shows Half Life 3 & Left 4 Dead 3 Potential (Leak)

There are many reasons that could explain the decade long delay for a Half Life 3 game. It could be that Valve has run out of ideas. It could be that the entire project is dead. However, it is most likely because of the game developer, being too occupied in developing Source 2.

The new game engine from Valve is finally in its final stages and images of it got leaked onto the internet. ValveTime was quick to unveil the spectacular graphics offered by the Source 2 engine. The test subject is none other than Left 4 Dead 2.

Taking a look at these images, you can see that it is more detailed than ever. This could mean that more in-game particles can be fitted in and that could offer players a more dynamic gameplay experience.

While the images might be breathtaking, try taking a look at the last slide. It is a text box which quotes on the functions of Source 2. In short, it claims the Source 2 to be a powerful GUI front end for content authoring. It can easily be extended with custom and pre-game assets. Finding, managing and editing assets are made easier and content compiling is now automatic.

Since it mentioned that the Source 2 engine can build on from old assets (games), it hints on some exciting times ahead for the likes of Half Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3. Fans believe that once Source 2 is out, Valve can give Half Life 3 its undivided attention.
