There has been controversy once again surrounding GTA 5 Online as Rockstar have cracked down on hackers 24 hours after the anti-cheat maintenance period ended. Rockstar said that the game will be better if it is played fair, some people however said that not having exploits in the game is contrary to the criminal ethos. The community of players are worrying that they too will get penalised if they received cash which was unsolicited.
Rockstar said “We have received complaints over the past few weeks about cheaters gifting large amounts of GTA$ to others, setting bounty rewards outside game limits, or otherwise attempting to tamper with the GTA Online economy.”
They went on to say “We have deployed several hotfixes to prevent this type of activity, and will be adding further cheat protection in future Title Updates as well. Players who willingly cheated to create this illegitimate influx of in-game currency will be separated out from the rest of the population.”
“If you were the unwilling recipient of an impossibly large amount of GTA$, you do not need to worry about disciplinary action against your account. However, please be aware that we will be making community-wide automatic adjustments to players’ account balances to remove the modded money.”
Rockstar planned on using alerts that are automated along with making inspections manually to try and catch hackers. Rockstar said that they wanted “to keep the gameplay environment as fair as possible for legitimate players, we routinely do sweeps to separate out cheaters and modders, and to reverse any illegitimate transactions. These sweeps are based on in-game automated detection, examination of suspicious gameplay statistics, and also manually-reviewed evidence submitted by the Community.”
Players have been worrying about bans and whether they would get dragged into them and this is what Rockstar had to say on that subject. “We are able to tell the difference, automatically through gameplay data, between the cheaters and the players who received this money innocently. Players who were willingly cheating are notified about any action taken against their account. If you were not cheating, you do not need to do anything further.”
Rockstar said that they will take away counterfeit money from the bank accounts of players along with inactive character wallets and active characters wallets. They said that some gamers will have spent the money and these players will not have items taken away from them, however their balance could drop.
Rockstar planned on gifting players cash to make sure that they were not left with no money after corrections were made. This was to ensure that the players could continue the game and bearing in mind if the player had received the money innocently.
Players who have used real money to buy GTA cash do not have to worry.
While Rockstar said that they cannot take money from people on request, they asked that gamers report any suspicious activity. Rockstar said “If you have any information about methods people are still using to try to ruin the GTA Online experience for others, please submit concrete proof (video tutorials, guides, links to mod files, etc.) to [email protected] and we will investigate.”
