The Toyota Prius has always been the world’s leading hybrid vehicle but now, other carmakers are matching up to the Prius’ benchmarks. Among them is the all-new Chevrolet Volt. The hybrid sedan has just been released and here is our take on it.
On the outside, the Volt looks like a decent sedan. However, Chevrolet could have done better with the awkward coloured grille. Regardless, the car comes with great suspensions as we couldn’t be bothered much by the potholes.
The Volt is also super quiet that we sometimes wonder if the engine is running or not. This is something really positive as nobody likes to be bothered by noise, particularly when driving in the city.
Under the hood, the Volt is powered by a 1.4L petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor. Both mills can transit to each other very smoothly. The engine offers 148hp and 272ft-lbs of torque that allows the vehicle to sprint from 0-62mph in just 9 seconds. Furthermore, there is a top speed of 99mph.
For a hybrid sedan, those are some amazing accomplishment. It gets better when we learned that the Volt has an EPA fuel rating of 235mpg.
On the downside of things, the Volt is not something really affordable for its segment. The car retails at £35,255, which is pretty steep. Then again, most hybrid vehicles fall under the same price bracket.
