BMW had just released the next-generation X5 and it is bolder, bigger and more ferocious than its predecessor. Like most vehicles that have arrived this year, the X5 is offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains and we can expect the latter to sell much more than the former.
We stepped inside the X5 and the interior offered us the best comfort that is typical of BMW. The space is more generous and everything inside is customizable. We took the 7-seater model and everything inside is finished with some expensive materials and quality.
Under the hood, the xDrive 30d engine generates 258hp which enables it to accelerate from standstill to 62mph in just 6.9 seconds. It is also important to note that the xDrive 30d is the lower trim levels. One can only wonder on how well the 381hp tri-turbo M50d performs when being put on the track.
The diesel mill is truly something exceptional. Aside from being able to break the 7 second mark when accelerating, the motor also returns an impressive fuel consumption rate of 45mpg. Fuel efficiency gets a whole lot better if consumers opted for the 2.0-litre sDrive25d version which returns 50mpg.
The bottom line is that the BMW X5 is a finely crafted SUV. The vehicle is so great that even taking the entry level model won’t be a mistake for consumers.
