The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was handed out to those who attended the Google I/O event and it came with Jelly Bean pre-installed. Now that the Jelly Bean update has begun rolling out to other Galaxy Nexus owners, it brings up the question once again of whether the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the best smartphone to get. To find out, let’s compare it against the current favorite, the Samsung Galaxy S3.

The Nexus weighs in at 0.33 pounds which makes it heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S3 which is 0.29 pounds. It may be smaller but it is thicker than the S3 with dimensions of 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.37 inches versus S3’s is 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes out on top for this.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has 2GB of RAM and it comes in 16 GB, 32GB or 64GB versions and it also comes with a removable battery in the form of a 2,100mAh powerhouse. It supports wireless charging and has a camera of 8 megapixels along with 1.9 megapixel camera on the front and there is support for 1080p video recording.
The Nexus has 1GB of RAM and a 1.2GHz processor along with a battery of 1820mAh, 32GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera on the back that records in 1080p and a camera on the front in the form of 1.3 MP. It also has support for microSD and 3.5 headphone jack. Alright so the Samsung Galaxy Nexus can’t match the S3 in terms of hardware. Let’s us look at software now to see if it can tip the scale in its favor.
At the moment the Nexus is the only handset that has Jelly Bean pre-installed and its very impressive. It comes with Google Now which helps users to keep updated with things they want to know about. It also comes with an updated Voice app which is the answer to Siri. The notifications have been improved and so the Nexus wins over the S3 thanks to Jelly Bean.
Looking deeper in, Google Now is one of the best features of Jelly Bean as it updates depending on your location. It will tell you scores of your favorite teams and much more. Google Now will not be available on the Samsung Galaxy S3 until it gets the Jelly Bean update, but then it could be that there is a news OS by the time this happens.
Thanks to Project Butter the performance of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has also been improved when it comes to the frame rate and triple buffers the graphics.
When it comes to software Jelly Bean is better than ICS hence Nexus rules. However when it comes to hardware the S3 is the better of the two handsets. Therefore really it is only a matter of preference of which of the two is the best for you. The S3 hardware could be matched by rivals or it could become outdated before the end of the year. Meanwhile the Nexus is set to remain at the forefront of whatever goodies that Google will bring out at least deep into 2013. So personally, I would go with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
