Two of the best Android phones out there at the moment are the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X. Both come with many top end features and hardware, and hence are flagship models. So which ones of these two greats should you put in your pocket?
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X
When it comes to design the Samsung Galaxy S3 feels light and has a plastic look but it is sleek and it has curves. The HTC One X is designed to have a great grip and an almost premium feel. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED screen while the One X has a 4.7 inch LCD capacitive touch screen. Both handsets have a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. However with the plastic look the S3 lacks charm and in terms of display we found it dim compared to the HTC One X (outdoor viewing also showed the HTC One X beat out the S3). Winner: HTC One X
Both handsets have Android 4.0 ICS, but the Samsung Galaxy S3 has TouchWiz overlay while the One X has HTC Sense. Both have ample power with their quad core processors but on paper the HTC One X has a 1.5GHz with 1 GB RAM while the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a 1.4GHz with 2GB of RAM. While there is no visible difference in speed, in terms of user experience we found that Samsung’s ICS with TouchWiz still looked a lot like Gingerbread. While HTC Sense gave the phone a more modern looking UI albeit not as good as stock ICS as found on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Winner: HTC One X.
The battery on the HTC One X is 1,800mAh and the Samsung Galaxy S3 has a battery of 2100mAh, so the Galaxy S3 comes out as the clear winner here. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3
Both devices have 8 megapixel cameras which can take 720 and 1080p video. However with the 1.9 megapixel front camera the S3 has an upperhand. Simultaneously the much applauded image processing chip on the HTC One X alongside its very useful filters makes this one a draw. Winner: Draw
Storage wise both handsets are offered in 32GB but the S3 has external storage options and there will be a 64GB version of the S3 too. HTC however offer 25GB of Dropbox storage to users for 2 years free. Of course internal storage beats cloud storage anyday. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
In summary both phones are great and the software on the S3 comes with S Voice, Smart Stay and Pop Up Play. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is very fast but the One X is a great handset with just a couple of downsides. Both give what is promised and so they are highly recommended.
