Come next week, Kia will launch the new Sorento and today, we have got more details on the vehicle. The large SUV is sized to compete with the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Edge.
In terms of design, the first thing one will notice is the more angular headlights that flanks on a linear grille. While it might look neat, we don’t rate the design highly as it is something not special at all.
Inside the cabin, the Sorento has all the latest features like a multi-purpose steering, floor mats and leather seats. We can give the Sorento a big round of applause as it is very generous with the space it offers. The third row seats can fit in an adult nicely.
However, things could have been better if Kia use premium materials instead of hard plastic for the dashboard. The least Kia could do is gave the dashboard a stylish design instead of something that is pretty dull.
The upcoming Sorento is powered by a 3.3L V6 engine that offers 290hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. The engine is matted to a 6-speed automatic transmission which allows the SUV to sprint from 0-100km/h in under 8 seconds. Also, the Sorento returns 20.6mpg on average, which is really poor if compared to today’s standards.
On the downside of things, Kia has yet to reveal the price tag on the Sorento. If we were Kia, the SUV should be valued at around the $25k mark. However, many rumours have been hinting that the Sorento will surpass the $40k mark.
If this is true, then the Sorento will surely be a big pile of overpriced garbage. For that same amount, consumers can opt for the Ford Edge or Jeep Grand Cherokee that is more exciting to drive on.
