2014 Chevy Volt Review: An All-Rounded Vehicle At Its Best

When it comes to electric vehicles, we believe that there are none which is as good looking as the Chevrolet Volt. The EV hatchback had just been released last month and it already landed on our top-ten list for the best everyday car.

Of course, the Volt is not a pure electric vehicles but it does favour the shocks more than the oil. Weighing at 3781 pounds, the hatchback comes with a stylish blocked grille and upswept rear end. Also, the front pillars are divided by a slate of glass to reduce blind spot.

Inside the vehicle however, we were disappointed with how the Volt was made, just like how we are disappointed with most American cars’ interiors. The choice of hard plastics that shapes a dull layout can get really frustrating for the car owner.

However, we are thankful that the Volt is equipped with features like leather-wrapped, heated seats, leather steering wheel and a removable armrest for the rear seat. The steering wheel is a multi-purpose breed and it acts as a shortcut for cruise control, phone control and radio control.

Under the hood, the Volt is powered by the Ecotec 1.4L internal combustion range-extender engine and Chevy’s Voltec electric drive system with a 16.5-kW lithium-ion battery pack. EPA rated the hybrid powertrain as something that is able to cover 382 miles. The EV motor alone can travel a distance of up to 38 miles.

This mileage should come in handy for those that are living in the city and commute a short distance to work every day. Heck, there may just be that extra battery juice that can take the driver out for some grocery shopping. If so, then owners don’t even have to rely on the electric motor at all.

Of course, the Chevrolet Volt is not something cheap to own. Getting the model with features like auto-dimming rear mirror, rear park assist with camera, front park assist, together with forward collision alert and lane departure warning will cost the consumer $44,545.
