While games are supposed to be fun and a way of spending free time enjoyably it seems that some gamers are getting a little carried away with GTA Online. GTA Online is part of GTA 5 and involves playing with real people around the world. The game encourages gamers to socially engage with one another but it seems that also enemies can be made.
We have heard that a player with the account name of Greenawald08 has harassed and threatened a gamer from Redditor who has the name of BuckQFiatch. At the moment it is unclear as to how this came about. It was reported that Greenawald08 said he has the username and password of his victim and he is going to use them to close down his account. The victim said that he reported the incident to Sony and then changed the password.
This is just one example of what some gamers are now calling e-thugging, this has been known as cyber bullying. When playing with people online you never know who you are dealing with. You may think that you are interacting with an adult when it could be a young boy or girl who is pretending, or vice versa. It seems to becoming easier to get threatened when playing online. While not everyone is a hacker and the majority of people would not go as far as it has been reported that Greenawald08 has done, it does pay to be vigilant.
It has been said that players should not get too involved in the game as emotions can fly high. Should there be more reports of this nature then Rockstar along with console makers would have to step in and do something about the situation.
GTA 5 and GTA Online has been the biggest game to come out of 2013 thanks to the storyline and single player missions along with the open play online. In the past GTA has sparked off some moral issues, however most gamers playing don’t imitate the in-game actions in their real life. See the threats flying over here.
