Galaxy S5 vs New HTC One vs LG G3 vs Xperia Z2: Who Da Boss?

Four big flagship handsets are set to take the smartphone market by storm. These are the Sony Xperia Z2, the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8 and the LG G3. We saw the Sony Xperia Z2 along with the Samsung Galaxy S5 launched at the MWC in Barcelona, while the HTC One M8 is thought to be heading our way on 28 March in New York and the LG G3 in June. So is it worth going ahead and going for the Samsung or Sony device or should you wait for the other two?

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will arrive with the Snapdragon 801 quad core processor at 2.5GHz and will have 2GB of RAM. This is less that fans expected as the Sony Xperia Z2 will have 3GB and so should the other two. The device has a camera of 16MP with fast autofocus of 0.3 seconds, which makes it stand out among other cameras. It also has 16GB of internal storage along with support for microSD card.

The display of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 5.1 inches of FHD Super AMOLED with resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 432ppi. There is a battery of 2,800mAh and two power saving modes, including the Super Power Saving. This turns the display into black and white and turns off many features. Samsung say the handset will last 24 hours when in this mode. On the back of the handset there is a dimpled design and the handset is waterproof and dust proof. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor. The Samsung Galaxy S5 offers all of the features of a Samsung handset, including S Voice and it has KitKat 4.4 and TouchWiz.

There is less known about the HTC One M8 but there has been numerous leaks regarding the specs, the hardware and the software. It is thought that the device will have a display of 5 inches which will be full HD 1080p with 440ppi. The HTC One M8 may have the quad core Snapdragon, which could be the 800/801 and which may be clocked in the region of around 2.3GHz to 2.5GHz and it could have 2GB or 3GB of RAM. It may have 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and if the leaked video proves true it would support microSD.

It is thought that the HTC One M8 could have an Ultrapixel camera on the back and the dual lens would stand out and offer better photos. The HTC One M8 should have a camera of around 4MP or perhaps 5MP on the front. It is expected that the handset would have a battery of around 31000mAh. The handset will have HTC Sense 6 along with Blinkfeed and it may have a fingerprint scanner, front facing speakers and perhaps an always listening voice command feature.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will be a direct rival with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it will boast the Snapdragon 801 processor which is clocked at 2.3GHz with 3GB of RAM. It will offer users 16GB of internal memory and support SD card. The design is aluminium and it will be water and dust proof. The handset can remain underwater for up to 30 minutes in 3 meters.

One of the key features of the Sony Xperia Z2 will be the 20.7MP camera which can take video in 4k and 1080p. The display will be 5.2 inches 1080p and offer 424ppi. The handsets should offer KitKat 4.4 along with the custom user interface of Sony.

The LG G3 is thought to be making its way out in June and it could arrive around the same time as we get to see the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime. We have heard that the LG G3 could have the Odin octa-core processor or maybe the Snapdragon 805. The octa-core LG G3 would mean that it would offer four cores at 2.2GHz and four at 1.7GHz, which would make it a very powerful device. It could also have 3GB of RAM and a display of QHD 2K.

The LG G3 may have the fingerprint scanner or possibly a retina scanner. These are all rumours at the moment and you do have to bear in mind that we heard similar rumours before the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 before its release.

It seems that now devices are all coming out with the same specs and similar features, such as fingerprint scanner, water and dust proofing. All of the flagship handsets will focus on improving the UX, reducing touchscreen latency and offering faster updates. The LG G3 does stand out as right now the specs and features are all rumours. Of course an increase in specs will no doubt mean that the price tag of handsets will jump up.
