A malware scam is going around Facebook and this time unscrupulous hackers have taken advantage of the missing airline flight MH370 to take over Facebook accounts.
The Boeing 777 disappeared during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing carrying 239 people. While there has been an international search for the aircraft, at the moment it is still unknown what happened to the flight.
Now hackers have cottoned on to the fact that people are curious about what happened to the flight and have been spamming Facebook with posts that claim there has been breaking news about the flight and which shows an aircraft in the water just off the Bermuda triangle. The hackers say that the video comes from CNN and they have put a Play symbol on the posting to make it look like a video.
However, when an unsuspecting person clicks on the link they are taken to a phishing website that tells the user to share the video before they can watch it. The hackers then gain access to the Facebook account and can post on the users wall to trick others.
It seems that a similar thing is going around other social media sites too. The missing aircraft hasn’t been found and authentic websites never ask for you to share a video before being able to watch it.
Anyone who has clicked the link, shared it or liked it should delete the posting and then change their Facebook password.
