More and more car manufacturers are offering diesel engines with their vehicles but not Jeep. The all-American carmaker confirmed that they won’t be releasing the Cherokee diesel yet as they are cautious with the diesel market in the US.
It seems that Jeep is afraid to take any more risk in a bid to curb the growing losses. As such, the company plans to test the American reaction by unveiling the Grand Cherokee before deciding on the next move.
The Grand Cherokee is already running on the diesel engine and if the vehicle sells well, there is no stopping Jeep from launching more diesel vehicles in the future.
Jeep’s head of operation, Mike Manly, revealed that the Cherokee’s sales would have to at least double before they would consider the Jeep Cherokee. The lad then highlighted that the Cherokee is different because of its weight and size. If the diesel Cherokee is to get released, the Grand Cherokee would have to achieve more than 8% in sales, best at double digits.
Over in Europe, the Jeep Cherokee diesel is already out and it runs on 2.0 liter Multihet four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.
