The CX-5 is the latest SUV to come from Mazda but it is unfortunate that many enthusiasts are not really paying much attention on the vehicle. With the lack of attention, nobody has a clue on whether the CX-5 is as good as how Mazda described it to be.
Yesterday, we got ourselves inside the CX-5 and here is our take on the vehicle. For starters, the CX-5 is equipped with the SkyActive technology, which drastically improves power, handling and efficiency. It is basically Mazda’s rendition of Ford’s EcoBoost system.
The CX-5 comes in multiple variants where one of them runs on petrol while the other operates on diesel. In detail, the former is powered by a 2L petrol engine that produces 148hp. The diesel is a 2.2L engine that produces 163hp.
The CX-5 has 14:1 compression ratio, which is totally weird in our books. Then again, Mazda’s Hideaki Tanaka explained “in the gasoline, the high compression means more torque and better combustion efficiency; in the diesel, lowering the ratio helps cleaner combustion, reduces mechanical loads and the weight of the engine.”
Comfort-wise, we felt that the petrol variant was a bit too noisy for our liking. When hopping on the diesel model, we were amazed by the quietness of the diesel mill. Mazda also did something exceptional with the CX-5 as the SUV returns 61.4mpg.
Other features on the CX-5 includes eversing camera, xenon lights, electric leather heated seats, keyless system and 19inch alloy.
In conclusion, we feel that the CX-5 is by far the best consumer-friendly SUV around. It is affordable, efficient and powerful. In fact, the world should start getting to know the CX-5 better.
