Unchartered 4 has been making great progress in its development and soon, it will be the first Unchartered title to debut on the PS4. However, things have suffered a major cough as a long delay is expected for the highly anticipated fourth sequel.
The departure of the franchise writer, Amy Hennig, certainly impacted Unchartered 4’s development. Things got out of hand when rumours suggest that the lady was forced out of Naughty Dog. The alleged culprits, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley from the Last of Us.
While the rumours are strong, Naughty Dog’s new head honchos denied them. Their defence were scrutinized by the fans of Unchartered as Amy is not the only person that has left. Unchartered 3 game director, Justin Richmond, also quitted the project and signed up with Riot Games. Many other individuals are reported to have axed themselves as well.
Whatever that is happening behind Naughty Dogs’ doors is certainly unhealthy and something that has stirred up the fans. Sony was also forced to go public and assured the gamers that Unchartered 4 will be delivered in time.
Even if that is to happen, it won’t be that same Unchartered 4 that fans are hyping about. A change in personnel halfway through development would mean that the initial inception will be mutated as well. On top of that, it is those individuals that made Unchartered successful which faces the axe.
All in all, a delay in Uncharted 4’s release might be unlikely but to have a game that has lost part of its identity is like playing Nathan Drake like a stranger all over again. Come E3 next month, we will learn more on how much the change affects Unchartered 4.
