Thanks to the XDA team, there is a stable Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S3 i-9300. The custom ROM is called ParanoidAndroid v3.97 and it has a hybrid user interface as well as bug fixes and improvements. Here is how you can perform the update on your Samsung Galaxy S3 yourself. But before that, there are a few things you have to make sure before you can continue the update and that are:
· Your Samsung Galaxy must be from the i-9300 model. Check this in the About Device section in Settings.
· Install CWM recovery on your Galaxy S3
· Install the Galaxy S3 USB driver on your computer
· Enable USB debugging on you Galaxy S3
· At least 80% of battery charge is available
· Make sure the Galaxy S3 is rooted and unlocked.
If you got all of those checked, proceed to the installation:
1. Connect your Samsung Galaxy S3 to your computer
2. Copy the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM and Google Apps zip files into your Galaxy S3 SD card’s root folder without extracting them.
3. Switch off and disconnect the Samsung Galaxy S3 from your computer.
4. Boot into CWM recovery by pressing and holding volume up, power and home buttons simultaneously. Use the volume keys to move between options and the power key to select.
5. Make a Nandroid backup of your current ROM just in case you would like to restore it later.
6. Perform Wipe Data/Factory Reset
7. Begin ROM installation. Choose “Install zip from SD card” > “Choose zip from SD card” and find and select the ParanoidAndroid v3.97 ROM zip file that you copied earlier.
8. After the ROM has installed, repeat step 7, but select the Google Apps zip file instead of the ROM zip file.
9. Once Google Apps is installed, download and install the NFC-fix.
10. Then go back to the main recovery menu and click “Wipe Cache Partition”
11. Perform Wipe Dalvik Cache under advanced options.
Now all you have to do is reboot your Samsung Galaxy S3, The first boot will take a little longer than usual, but don’t worry since this is normal. You should have a Samsung Galaxy S3 running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean now.
NOTE
In case bootloop occurs, perform Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache and try rebooting again. Repeat if necessary.
Returning to Previous ROM: To restore your old ROM, boot up into recovery, select “Backup and Restore” and restore your original ROM by choosing it from the list.
