The current Nissan Leaf has been around for a few years now and while Nissan did say that they are working on an upgraded model that will offer a bigger battery and longer range, we have not seen the upgraded model yet. Some people now believe that the reason why Nissan is taking so long with the Leaf is because they were waiting for the e-Power powertrain.
Nissan has just unveiled the new Nissan e-Power powertrain. According to Nissan, the new powertrain will be used to power the new Nissan Note e-Power. Unlike a standard electric engine, the e-Power will com with a small 1.2 liter inline 3 gasoline engine. The gas engine’s role is to generate electricity for the battery which is why the vehicle will not come with a plug-in.
According to Nissan, the new engine will have a fuel efficiency that is close to what the Prius is offering right now.
