It is no secret that Apple has a liking for putting a huge price tag on their products unnecessarily. The latest iPhone 5S is an example of an expensive device when it first launched but as the months went by, the price tag kept on shrinking.
Today, the cost to get an iPhone 5S has reached rock bottom. The device can be obtained for just a dollar. Of course, this is for the entry level 16GB iPhone 5S. Additionally, consumers will have to pick it up with a new 2 year contract as well as trade in their old phones.
The promo is hosted by major retailer, BestBuy. While it all sounds great, there appears to be a major catch. Trading in any old iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S will reward the consumers with a $150 BestBuy gift card. This reward will have to be used when purchasing the 16GB iPhone 5S.
The other downside is that the promo is not available with other variants of the iPhone 5S. It is restricted to the 16GB version only.
In reality, we don’t quite recommend users to pick up this deal. The iPhone 5 is still more in value compared to the 4S. Consumers can sell away the iPhone 5 for about $300 which is more than what the gift card can offer. On top of that, selling or trading your device will have the condition affecting its value.
All in all, without the trade in, consumers are encouraged to pick up the 16GB iPhone 5S at BestBuy. They are selling it for only $149 which is considerably cheaper than the $199 price tag on Apple’s website.
