VW Tristar Concept Confirmed For Production!

Volkswagen has taken the wraps of the Tristar Concept yesterday, at the IAA show in Hannover, and the pickup truck is described as something that has more to offer than the existing VW Amarok.

The Tristar Concept is confirmed to be the base model of the next-generation VW T6 that is due to arrive next year. During the vehicles unveiling, VW announced that the vehicle will combine extreme off-road capabilities with flexible transport and storage capacities to cater the general market.

Size-wise, the T6 is much bigger than the Amarok. In detail, it measures 188.5in long, 91.3in wide and 81.12in tall. There is a ground clearance of 1.18in. Together with the extended cab, styling bar, short wheelbase and 4Motion 4WD system, the T6 is going to be an off-road mayhem.

Design-wise, the T6 seems to draw inspirations from its predecessor. Of course, the new sharp, wrap-around lines and LED headlights makes the T6 more attractive than the previous Transporter models. Inside the vehicle, the T6 is equipped with a new 20” tablet table video conferencing, sound systems and even an espresso machine.

On the downside of things, VW failed to share on the sort of powertrain coming with the T6. However, the German carmaker did reveal that the Tristar Concept is powered by a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine producing 204PS (201hp) at 4,000 rpm and 450Nm (332lb-ft) of torque at 1,400 rpm, while being mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. This allows it to sprint from 0-100km/h in about 10 seconds and achieve a top speed of 185km/h. We can expect the T6 to run on something similar.

At the moment, it is still too early to confirm on what the T6 will look to offer. Nevertheless, this will all be clarified when VW launches the pickup truck at next year’s Geneva Motor Show.
