Earlier today, Volkswagen announced that it will be adopting a 5-year life cycle for its vehicles to meet customers’ demand. This was confirmed by VW America’s VP for Marketing and Strategy, Joerg Sommer.
The lad revealed that the current life-cycle for VW vehicles is 7-years. To better align with customer’s buying habit, VW has decided that 5-years is enough. Also, whenever the model reaches 3-years of age, it will get refreshed with a facelift before being replaced with a successor at the 5-year mark.
On the downside of things, Joerg failed to clarify on whether the new direction in life cycle will affect other carmakers under the VW group. This includes Skoda, Seat, Audi and many more. After all, the carmakers have been adopting the same vehicle base platform to cut cost.
Aside from that, Joerg revealed that VW will be pumping in $7billion in new models and facilities here in the US over the next 4-years. This will include the production of the CrossBlue concept, a seven-seat SUV already confirmed for a 2016 launch.
