Reports suggest that the HTC One X is still selling very well despite the release of the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 that has been recorded as being the highest pre-order for an Android phone to date. So why is the HTC One X selling so strong still? The answer lies in its specs which appear to match the Samsung Galaxy S3 on paper, as well its more immediate availability. Let’s take a quick look at the major specs to see how both smartphones compare with one another.
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X: How HTC is still holding its own
The HTC One X was the first ever Android phone with a quad-core CPU from HTC and when it comes to the OS both devices have Android 4.0. It boasts a 1.5Ghz quad-core CPU with 1GB RAM compared to the S3 which has a 1.4GHz quad-core chipset with 1GB RAM. While the HTC One X appears to be the winner on paper, many consumers are unaware that recent benchmark tests show the Samsung Galaxy s3 is still more powerful due to packing a chipset with newer architecture.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes in three flavors: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB and it accepts SD cards up to 32GB more. The HTC One X is offered with 32GB and there is no SD card option. If 32GB isn’t enough for you then the Samsung Galaxy S3 is your best bet. However for the average consumer, the 32GB option suffices and the 64GB Samsung Galaxy S3 option would prove too expensive for many.
Display wise the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8 inch 306 ppi density with 720×1280 pixels Super AMOLED while the HTC One X has a 4.7 Super IPS capacitive touchscreen. Both devices have Gorilla glass. The HTC One X however does seem to have a clearer display when it comes to viewing outdoors in our tests. Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy S3 display has been criticized for being Pentile. Winner: HTC One X by a small margin
When it comes to the cameras they are both equally matched. The HTC One X is fitted with an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and 1080p video and a second camera of 1.3 megapixels which records video at 720p. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also comes with an 8 megapixel camera with 3264×2448 pixels, auto focus, image stabilization, geo tagging and smile detection and has a 1.9 megapixel from camera for video calling.
In addition to being able to match the Samsung Galaxy S3 on paper, the HTC One X is more readily available on the market all over the world including the US. It also features a much more appealing exterior design and screams ‘premium’ compared to the plastic-ky Samsung Galaxy S3. So for buyers who decide to pick both up in their hands, would find the One X ‘feel’ more highend than its subtler rival.
In the US, the HTC One X is available through AT&T and even Sprint (HTC EVO 4G LTE) with contract prices ranging from $113 to $199 depending on which 3rd party retailer you decide to go with. As for the Samsung Galaxy S3, you can still only buy it unlocked in the US from outlets like Amazon and Negri Electronics which will set you back upwards of $700 at this time.
