Lotus Taking The First Flight Out Of The US

Lotus profits have been on a rollercoaster ride ever since it was launched back in 1952. Now, the British carmaker doesn’t look so good as they have recorded yet another year of losses. It just seems like Lotus has lost its will to compete again.

This is evident in the US. The local government has issued a warning to Lotus to equip the Evora with smart airbags within 12-months or the model will be branded as illegal to drive in the US. Unfortunately, the yearlong notice has reach its end and Lotus has yet to comply with the local safety standards requirement.

Hence, the production of the Evora has been ceased for the US market. This is really bad business from Lotus as now they are limited to selling only two models in the America. It is the Elise and Exige.

It is difficult to understand why Lotus didn’t react to the instructions issued by the US government. Could it be the lack of funds to install smart airbags? We will never know for sure but at this rate, it won’t be long before Lotus packed their bags and leave the US.
