PS4 More Of A Gaming Machine Than Xbox One Says Dev

Both the Xbox One and PS4 are out now and even after months of evaluating the consoles, there is still no clear winner. Despite that fact, many game developers have shared their account on developing games for these two super consoles.

The latest testimonial came from Sniper Elite 3 senior producer, Jean-Baptiste Bolcato, who revealed that the PS4 is more developer friendly compared to the Xbox One. Bolcato also explained why all PS4 games can run at 1080p while it is much more difficult with the Xbox One.

It appears to be with Microsoft’s eSRAM which makes it difficult for developers to utilize the Xbox One completely. Bolcato added the eSRAM is a great and simple device but it is too small to offer 1080p output; even with a superfast RAM.

That is when the hassle begins. Devs are forced to be tricky in their approach with the eSRAM. On another note, the Xbox One identity as a media hub also caused a lot of limitations to the devs. This isn’t the case with the PS4.

It seems the tide has reversed. Previously, devs had a hard time producing games for the PS3. This is because of the diverse and complex system in the console. Now, it is the Xbox One that creates a similar problem.

Despite these problems, it is not right to claim that the Xbox One is underpowered. It is not all bad news for Xbox One owners. Bolcato hinted that Microsoft will be looking to address this issue by releasing a new SDK which will simplify processes and make 1080p games easier to develop.
