Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini users are in for some great news. The Android 4.3 update is now available for that tiny phone you love. Of course, this isn’t the official Jellybean rollout.
The team of modders are back, offering the S3 Mini users the CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM. Unlike the many other ROMs found on the internet, this one is free from errors and bloatware.
This custom ROM also sees some tweaking done to the TouchWiz, making it more efficient and less demanding. Other additions are the Bluetooth Low Energy support, Open GL ES 3.0 and virtual surround sound.
Other changes include:
1. 1GHz bug resolved
2. 2D/3D hardware acceleration
3. Sensors functionality
4. Wireless connectivity
5. All-native tethering
6. Camera functions
7. CPU sleep mode
8. High quality YouTube
9. Offline charging
10. Support for a 64-GB SD card
Like every other ROM update, it is best for you to do a backup of your phone, together with its firmware. Also, do enable debugging for the process to work. If you have a copy of the CyanogenMod 10.2, then you can commence installation. Refer to the flashing instructions below for a step-by-step guide.
1. Connect your S3 Mini to your PC via the USB cable.
2. Copy the CM 10.2 ROM and Google Apps package, then paste them onto the SD card of your phone without extracting any zip files.
3. Unplug the phone and turn it off.
4. Reboot your phone into recovery mode by pressing and holding the volume up, home and back keys at the same time until the Samsung logo appears.
5. While in recovery, make an Android backup of your present ROM. Select “backup and restore > backup” to save the ROM onto the SD card so you can restore your older ROM anytime.
6. Do a complete wipe. Choose “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition.” Then select “advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.”
7. Once the wipe is done, install CyanogenMod 10.2 by selecting “install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card”. Find the CM 10.2 you pasted earlier and confirm the installation.”
8. Once this is done, go back to the main menu while in recovery mode and select “reboot system now.”
9. The phone will now reboot. This might take five minutes or so before you see the home screen, so don’t worry.
If executed as how you are instructed, then everything should run smoothly and there won’t be any setbacks.
