If you have the locked version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 you will be happy to hear that you can unlock your device and it will not cost you a thing.
Say for example you are with Verizon and the handset was bought on contract with them but it has now expired. Your handset will still be locked to the carrier, but you can unlock it and then use it with a different carrier. When the device has been unlocked you can use it anywhere you want. So to unlock your handset without it costing you a penny, just check out the steps which have been outlined below.
Remove your own SIM card and then put one in that belongs to a different carrier. You should then turn off the Samsung Galaxy S4 and turn it back on again.
Head to the dial pad of the phone and type in *#197328640#. Go to main menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > wait a minute before heading into menus and choosing back. You will see ‘Network Lock’ – so you select [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ.
The correct sequence will read: Asterisk Pound One Nine Seven Three Two Eight Six Four Zero Pound. Remember that some people call the asterisk the ‘star’, and call the pound ‘hash’.
If all has gone well your Samsung Galaxy S4 will now be unlocked and you are free to use it on whatever carrier you want. This is a code that Samsung have used for some time and so you might want to try it out even if you don’t have the Samsung Galaxy S4, it could work on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or any other Samsung handset.
