Ever since the release of the next-gen consoles, there has been a lot of buzz on games such as Mass Effect 4, Fallout 4, Titanfall, Unchartered 4 and many more coming to both the Xbox One and PS4. It is unfortunate to learn that there is a lack of hype for the upcoming, Thief 4.
This upcoming game from Square Enix is among the best there is and should have received the same anticipation with other AAA titles. Now, Thief 4 is about to make its debut on both the Xbox One and PS4. What could have gone wrong in the marketing aspects of the game?
There are many reasons to why there isn’t much exposure for Thief 4. Despite being on major magazine interviews and releasing plenty of trailers for the game, it isn’t that popular. This could be due to its PC roots that limit Thief 4 exposure. Heck, it could also be the gap in between releases.
It could also be Square Enix marketing technique. Thief 4 is about the protagonist being a thief of course. To be a great one, the player has to travel in the shadows. It could be that the game developer is practicing the same thing.
All in all, it is a worrying sight if a AAA title is not popular. However, it is wrong to see Thief 4 as a failure. The series has never failed to entertain and it seems like this fourth sequel will be a dark horse in the race to success.
