Windows 7 Or Windows 8.1: Is Newer Better?

If you head down to any computer store to purchase a laptop or desktop, it is nearly impossible to find one that is running on Windows 7. The tech-world has already made the jump to Windows 8.1 but is it truly better than its predecessor? Check out our comparison below.

1. Boot Time
If there is something the Windows 8.1 is truly good at, it is achieving the quickest booting time in Windows’ history. The latest OS is able to load up between 10-15 seconds consistently. This is due to the hybrid boot system that combines the Hibernation mechanism together with Shut Down. The Windows 7, on the other hand, eats up at least a minute to boot.

2. Business-minded
Another great feature on the Windows 8.1 is its ability to operate on any network with ease. For example, the OS can be accessed by the IT admin of a given company remotely. Also, the OS supports tap-and-print via NFC and advanced biometric encryption, thus making it ideal for businesses. Then again, when something goes wrong, there is no way around it which makes Windows 7 the better choice, even if things are more complicated on the old OS.

3. Performance
The Windows 8.1 is super lightweight, which made it faster and less resource intensive. Of course, the improvement is still minimal from the Windows 7.

4. Interface
If there is one thing many cannot accept on the Windows 8.1 is the panel style Start Menu. Everything is different from the traditional Windows layout that it needs a lot of adapting for the consumers. Regardless, studies have shown that everyone misses the old layout.

5. Virtual Disk Support
Back in Windows 7, users have to install Daemon Tools if they wish to load a virtual disk. This is no longer necessary as Windows 8.1 is well equipped to support it.
