Last year’s Detroit Auto Show played host to a variety of awesome concepts and one of them is the Beetle Dune from Volkswagen. Earlier today, the German carmaker stole the spotlight again after they released more updated images of the vehicle.
When viewing the photos, one will see that the Beetle Dune Concept is basically an average Beetle that stands on classy wheels. Of course, there are other changes to the original Beetle like raised ground clearance and some chrome finish on the lower bumpers.
It seems that the Beetle Dune Concept is already a finished product. Volkswagen revealed that the concept is so completed that it is ready for production.
The company also revealed that the Dune is powered by a 2L 4-cylinder engine that produces 2017hp at 210PS. The motor is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission which also guarantees acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 7.3 seconds. In addition to that, there is a top speed of 227km/h.
While the Beetle Dune might have an overall SUV feel, it doesn’t run on the AWD system. Instead, the vehicle runs on the FWD system. It also comes with features like electronic XDS differential lock.
The photo release of the Beetle Dune Concept showed just how serious Volkswagen is for it and we could be seeing the vehicle coming to life in mid-2015.
