Off-road Mini Crossovers are the biggest trend in the automotive industry at the moment. Even Volkswagen is aware of it and hence released images of its new concept, the Beetle Dune.
Taken from the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, the classy vehicle from the past will get some off-road treatment when it goes into production in 2016. While VW never actually revealed that the Beetle Dune is in their plans, a video of the vehicle suggested otherwise.
For starters, the Beetle Dune will get additional 2-inches of ground clearance while being 1.1 inches wider at the same time. It will be powered by the 210hp, 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that pushes power on the front-wheels. Of course, analyst felt that it would be better if the Dune drives on the AWD system.
The Beetle Dune is expected to retail at 2,800 euros on top of a standard bug. While it might be interesting to see how the Dune will fair in the off-road segment, VW don’t have to worry about it as the Touareg and the Tiguan has never failed the German carmaker.
The worst that could happen is that the Dune will just be a collector’s car for the vehicle. Meanwhile, readers can check out the video above.
