There one can easily see Nathan Drake that is made to appear so life-liked that many are eager to know on how Naughty Dog is able to achieve such a thoroughly detailed creation.
Naughty Dog’s lead character artist, Frank Tzeng, revealed in a recent interview that the company didn’t utilize the Polygon system in developing characters. Instead, they relied on NURBS and claims that the technology makes it possible to create life-like characters.
Frank then shared that it would be much more detailed if NURBS are used in a fighting game. After all, there are only 2 characters rendered on the screen most of the times and thus, make it easier to make them appear real.
Frank claims that it is still not possible to implement such technology on huge adventure or RPG games like Skyrim or Metal Gear Solid. However, Frank claims that the new-generation of consoles, together with new game engines might be able to apply NURBS on every model.
