It was revealed this week that the Tesla Model S will be coming in with a 75kWh battery. Everybody assumes that Tesla was going to start offering these larger batteries but it looks like that might not be the case.
It has now been reported that Tesla will not be releasing a new battery but will release a new software that will allow the Tesla Model S to use the 75kWh battery. That is because Tesla has been fitting their Tesla Model S with the 75kWh battery all along but used some kind of software to keep it at 70kWh.
According to Teslarati, a Tesla owner was told by their Australian dealership that the larger option will be upgraded with a firmware. The dealership also added that the upgrade will cost an additional $3250.
Tesla later confirmed that the 75kWh battery can be unlocked via an over the air software update.
