Sunset Overdrive Pokes Fun at Assassin’s Creed Unity Controversy

Developer Insomniac Games has released their latest video update containing brand new news for their latest game, ‘Sunset Overdrive’. The main showcase of the video however, was when an email was answered with the question, “can you play as a female character?”, the scene is quickly changed to reveal a female character wearing attire that is similar to that of an Assassin’s Creed character.

This is an obvious poke at the Assassin’s Creed Unity controversy, where it was confirmed that there were no playable female characters in the game. This later sparked even more controversy when asked why there were no female leads, with technical director James Therien explaining how their work would have been doubled if a female assassin were to appear as a playable character.

This is not the first time Insomniac Games have poked fun at a another company. Sunset Overdrive’s E3 trailer was parodying game franchises such as Call of Duty, showing a generic army guy fighting for his life before the colourful cast barge into the grey, two toned world.

Sunset TV presenter stressed that character customisation plays an important role in their new game. Skin tone, clothing, gender, size are all examples of different variants that can be customisable in-game.

Sunset Overdrive is an Xbox One exclusive action, third person shooter game and is expected to be released on October 28, 2014.
