It is no secret that the Subaru BRZ was built together with Toyota as the latter intends to revive the GT86 badge. Unfortunately, the sports car is at risk of being discontinued after a disagreement occurred between both Japanese carmakers.
It appears that Subaru couldn’t be on the same page with Toyota after the latter proposed on making new progress with the BRZ. In other words, Toyota is hoping to update the BRZ with a new model.
A report from Drive further revealed the ugliness of the matter. In detail, it revealed that Toyota is pulling the plug on the entire project, hence, discontinuing the BRZ once and for all. If this is to happen, Subaru will suffer more financially.
Toyota’s chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, is composed with the entire situation and revealed that the company has a plan B. Instead of wasting time on arguing, Tada revealed that Toyota will be teaming up with BMW in creating the next GT86.
The upcoming vehicle is also teased to be coming with a downsized engine that is equipped with a turbocharger. This isn’t surprising as the choice of engine is something that is trending at the moment.
If this is to happen, then we may see an entirely different GT86. With Toyota’s resources and BMW’s high-quality engineering in play, the sports car will surely be something explosive. The sympathies are for Subaru.
