Subaru BRZ At Risk Of Extinction After Fallout With Toyota

The Subaru BRZ enjoyed great launch a couple of years ago but now, it seems that the sports car won’t be getting a successor. An insider revealed that the relationship between Toyota and Subaru has turned sour over a disagreement on making a successor for the BRZ.

In case you haven’t heard, Subaru is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries, which is also partly owned by Toyota. Both Japanese carmakers have collaborated to produce the BRZ.

As for the dispute, it is understood that Subaru refused the idea of making a new BRZ. For Toyota, the BRZ is their new GT86 and seeing no development with the vehicle upsets them. Being a bigger company, Toyota is rumoured to have pulled out from the BRZ project. They will look for collaborations elsewhere which could financially hurt Subaru.

Toyota chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada, teased that the next GT86 will be a Toyota-BMW model. If this is to happen, we can expect a more sublime finish for the GT86 as it gets a touch of German engineering. Tada added that the sports car will have a small engine capacity but features a turbocharger to keep in-line with today’s trend.

As for Subaru, the company does not have the resources to continue on the BRZ. Their negligence will pay the price as the sports car will be hitting the scrapyard.
