Sony Xperia Phones To Get An Exclusive KitKat Treatment?

Sony has dropped a few hints about what Xperia owners are in line for when KitKat 4.4 comes out for the Xperia Z, SP, T, TX and V handsets. It’s believed that lots of features will be based on the Xperia Sirius and Z1, and include two new UIs, camera modes and battery managers.

The Sony Sirius UI leaked, showing us that it had two variants, the simple homescreen and the Xperia homescreen. This leak also showed new icons, including new battery and status bar icons.

When Jelly bean 4.3 came out it brought Sony owners Smart Social apps, a new UI and new camera modes. The Xperia Z1, Ultra X and other Z series handsets might get some exclusive camera features, like Timeshift video and Background Defocus.

Smart App has been given a revamp, and there’s a Close All button, which is part of Recent Apps. There’s also a Smart Backlight, which is like Smart Stay on Samsung handsets. The KitKat 4.4.2 update brought support for white balance, smart call handling and a double tap to wake up function.

The Sirius will get some new sound options, like audio accessory support and hi-res audio with USB. The Sirius will also be getting Clear Audio, S Force audio and the xLoud engine.

There should also be lots of customisation options for the notification and status bars – there are some My Xperia themes, which is handy. So far, Jelly Bean 4.3 users can’t customise their Xperia themes any more.

The KitKat update will mean better power management,, low battery and location-based Wi-Fi, and a stamina mode. You can also queue background data so that it doesn’t use up battery life.

This KitKat update should be coming to the Z series this year, but the SP,T, TX and V series might have to wait a bit longer.
