Sony Xperia Phones Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update Roadmap

Sony has been dropping hints to Xperia owners about the Xperias X, SP, T, TX and V getting KitKat 4.4.4. It’s also hinted that these phones could get the same features as the ones on the Zperia Sirius and Z1, like two new user interfaces, new camera modes and battery managers.

A Sony Sirius UI was leaked, showing a simple-looking homescreen. We could also see some icon changes, including the battery icon and the status bar icon.

Jelly Bean 4.3 brought Smart Social apps, new camera modes and a new UI with it. Sony’s Ultra X, the Zperia Z1 and some Z series handsets could have some Sirius features, we’ve heard about Timeshift video and background defocus, for example.

The smart app had a whole new look and the Close All button, part of the Recent Apps and Smart Backlight package. This is very similar to Samsung’s Smart Stay. KK 4.4.4 has more call support as well as a double-tap feature to wake up and control white balance.

The Xperia Sirius has new sound options as well as hi-res audio and audio accessory support. There’s also S Force audio and Clear Audio with an xLoud engine.
Users can also customise the notification bar a bit more – Jelly Bean 4.3 doesn’t have much room for tweaking because My Xperia themes take up a lot of space.
KK 4.4.4 bring enhanced power management, location-based Wi-Fi and queuing for background data. Battery management also steps up a bit more when power is getting low.
The first Xperia phone to get KitKat 4.4.4 will be the Z2, then the SP, T, TX and V will follow suit.
