Samsung have recently revealed the long awaited Samsung Galaxy S5 in Barcelona and the Unpacked 5 event and on the same day at the same event, Sony launched the Sony Xperia Z2. This starts the battle of the Android phones for this year.
The Sony Xperia Z2 will launch around the globe this month so they will have a head start over the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is set to be launched in April.
So which of these two devices will take the crown for the best Android handset?
The Sony Xperia Z2 comes with a design identical to the predecessor albeit with a slimmer body and a slight bump in the display. It has an aluminium ring on the 8.2mm edge and is dust and water proof. Sony say it can remain underwater for around 30 minutes at five feet.
The Sony Xperia Z2 has a display that is full HD 1920 x 1080p, this is IPS and offers 424ppi. It offers Live Colour LED tech and TRILUMINOS along with X reality for mobile picture engine technology.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has the polycarbonate body which has better build than its predecessors and is also dust and water proof. It can survive being in three feet of water for up to half an hour. It has the Super AMOLED 5.1 inch display that is full HD at 1920 x 1080p and around 432ppi.
Both handsets offer the Snapdragon 801 series based SoC. The Sony Xperia Z2 has the Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB chip at 2.3Ghz and the Samsung Galaxy S5 has the MSM8974AC at 2.5Ghz.
Sony has included 3GB of RAM along with 16GB internal storage, which can be boosted by another 64GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is offered with 16GB or 32GB of storage and can be expanded by another 128GB.
The Sony Xperia Z2 comes with a superb camera and has the G Lens along with BIONZ image processing engine. It offers the Exmor sensor, LED flash, HDR image stabiliser and can record in 4k Ultra HD.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has improvements over the predecessor. It comes with a 16MP camera with auto-focus at 0.3 seconds. It offers 4k video recording and advanced HDR.
Both devices offer good cameras for photos and full HD 1080p video recording.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 offers features such as a fingerprint sensor, inbuilt heart rate sensor, kids mode, private mode, download booster and S Health apps. It is water and dust proof, has a battery of 2800mAh with Ultra Power Saving mode and has standby of 390 hours. There is LTE support and fifth gen Wi-Fi for faster wireless data transfer.
The Sony Xperia Z2 has an aluminium body that is shatter proof and resistant to scratches, water proof along with being able to survive water jets, the G Lens and BIONZ image processing engine, a battery of 3000mAh with STAMINA mode, which powers the device for around 740 hours. It also comes with the xLoud Experience and has compatibility with the PlayStation.
