Samsung Galaxy S5: In Comes The Bad News

Earlier this month, the world got a glimpse of the next big thing coming from Samsung, the Galaxy S5. Everything has been rather positive for this 2014 flagship device as it will come with plenty of improvements from the S4 and brand new features as well.

However, the S5 is about to suffer a major setback and to make matters even worse, it is with the device’s home turf, South Korea. Carriers in this democratic nation are facing a 45-day government sales ban. This will affect the April 11 launching of the Galaxy S5.

This is imposed by the government as a form of punishment to the carriers for breaching the law where phones cannot be subsidized by more than 270,000 won (£152). The ban will take effect from 13 March and 19 May.

This will definitely have an impact on Samsung since South Korea is the fifth biggest market for the phone vendor. Knowing Samsung, they will definitely suspend the release for South Korea alone. Although it might be hurtful, it is the best move yet.

Meanwhile, the carrier in South Korea can have more time to think of the best promotion for the upcoming Galaxy S5. On the other hand, Samsung can focus on the world and save South Korea for the last.
