If you’ve got a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, 3 or even the S3 and S4, you can unlock it for free, meaning it can migrate away from its usual carrier and travel the world! For free!
Say your Note 3 is on Verizon – you can only use it on that network. No other SIMS will work, until you unlock the handset. Once unlocked, you could send the device to a chum or relative abroad, or go off traveling yourself.
How do you do it?
Remove your native SIM and replace it with a foreign one – one from any other network. Then turn off the Note 3 before turning it back on again.
Then head to your dial pad and enter this code: *#197328640#. Head to your main menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3] Perso SHA256 OFF. Then wait for around 30 seconds or a minute before returning to your main menu and selecting back. You should now see a “Network Lock” message. Choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ.
If you entered the sequence correctly, it should read: “Asterisk Pound One Nine Seven Three Two Eight Six Four Zero Pound”. Remember that some people call the asterisk the star, and the pound button the hash.
You should now have an unlocked Galaxy Note 3 which is free to roam the globe! This code has been used by Samsung for a good while now, and it will probably work with other Samsung devices of that age and its predecessors.
