Two of the best Android devices on the market at the moment are the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Google Nexus 5.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy S4 didn’t change that much from that of the Samsung Galaxy S3. The device has the plastic look but it allows owners of the handset to swap the battery and insert the SD card. The Nexus 5 doesn’t offer this.
The Nexus 5 also has plastic in the design but this isn’t shiny. It does stand out and it offers a more defined look.
For the display the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been improved as it is 4.99 inches of Super AMOLED instead of the 4.8 that was seen on the Samsung Galaxy S3. It offers 440ppi with resolution of 1920 x 1080p.
The Nexus 5 offers an HD display of 1080 x 1920. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has better colours and text is superb for reading or watching films.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has TouchWiz while the Google Nexus 5 offers pure Android.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 has been heavily skinned but this brings with it some great features, including Smart Stay, Smart Scroll and Smart Pause.
The Nexus 5 comes with KitKat 4.4 in the pure version and this is the latest OS from Google.
On the home screen of the Nexus 5 owners can swipe from left to right for Google Now with Google Search. The app icons are bigger along with a transparent status bar and white backgrounds for folders. Hangout is the default messaging app and this can deal with texts too.
The camera of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the back is 13MP Dual Shot, so owners can use the front and back cameras at the same time. Drama Shot allows owners to capture up to 100 shots in 4 seconds. Cinema Shot is similar to Cinemagram on the Nokia devices, this allows you to have one portion of the photo moving and the rest remains still.
The Nexus 5 offers an 8MP camera with support for IOS and HDR.
While the Nexus 5 camera is good for photos it can take some time to focus.
Both devices offer great specs. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has the Snapdragon 600 Qualcomm 1.9GHz processor with 2GB of RAM. The memory can be boosted up to 64GB with microSD card and it offer 16GB internal storage. Storage choices in many regions include 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, however not in Australia. There is a battery of 2,600mAh with support for the 4G networks in Australia.
The Google Nexus 5 offers the Qualcomm 2.2GHz processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB internal storage choices, but there is no support for SD card. The handset has support for 4G and comes with a battery of 2,300mAh.
