One of the carriers in the US has confirmed updates to KitKat 4.4 for some of the Samsung Galaxy handsets, with two of them being the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Just last month in the US Samsung confirmed updates to some handsets but they didn’t say anything about specific carriers or give dates. We still don’t have any dates but we do have conformation from Sprint. They have talked about a number of KitKat 4.4 updates and included the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Note 3, both of these were updated some days ago. The carrier also mentioned the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 along with saying that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, the Galaxy Mega and the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 are to be updated to KitKat 4.4.
At the same time Sprint said that they will share released dates in the near future. In the past Sprint has confirmed a roll out on the day that the specific update rolls out.
It is thought that the updates are going to be incremental. Sprint has said that the update will include the following.
• Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
• Enhanced Messaging: Hangouts now includes SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
• Upgraded Google Mobile Service (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
• Updated Lock Screen Features: The lock screen now allows users to quickly access the camera with a new shortcut and view album art while music is playing.
Sprint are the first US carrier to confirm the updates, however it is thought that soon others will follow. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 is available with all major carriers in the US.
Rumours are that we could see the updates roll out in March to April, however this may not be specifically the US.
