The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini smartphone will not receive any further updates from its manufacturer. The device has reached its expiration date and it ended with a huge controversy.
Users were expecting Samsung to roll out the Android 4.3 Jellybean update to their S3 Mini. However, their hopes got cancelled out when Samsung claims that there are some issues with the TouchWiz for the device. In detail, it seems that the UI can’t integrate with the Jellybean for the S3 Mini.
This is a major upset for the S3 Mini users as the 4.3 Jellybean was meant to be the last update for the smartphone. However, users can turn to CyanogenMod, which can give the Jellybean OS to the S3 Mini without any hindrance. On top of that, there isn’t any bloatwares on the CM10.2 ROM.
If you wish to update your device to the Jellybean OS, it is important to note that the CM10.2 ROM only supports the I8910, I8910L and the I8910N variants of the S3 Mini. Also, it will have to be rooted and have the CWM recovery installed. Other thing to note includes downloading the ROM, Google Apps Package, a backup created and 50% battery life.
Once ready, perform the following:
1. Switch off your S3 mini and reboot the device into recovery mode (press and hold Volume Up + Home + Back keys simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears).
2. Create an Android backup of the current ROM by selecting “backup and restore > backup” to save the ROM on its SD card in case you want to restore it later on.
3. Perform “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition.” Then select “advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.”
4. Begin the installation by selecting “install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > find the CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM you have copied earlier > confirm installation.”
5. Repeat the previous step but this time choose the Google Package file instead.
6. Once completed, go back to the main menu and choose “Reboot System Now”
When the S3 Mini is booted, you should be able to see the Jellybean in effect.
