Those using the old Samsung Galaxy S2 can still enjoy the best features of today’s time. While it might not be possible through waiting for an official update to arrive, S2 users can opt for the unofficial method of applying an update.
CyanogenMod had just produced the CM11 ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 model and it will update the smartphone to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. On the other hand, users will have to put in an extra effort as the update requires the S2 to be rooted.
If you are an S2 GT-i9100 user and wish to update your device, we have the installation guide below. Prior to that, it is important for you to create a backup of your smartphone. Also, make sure that the S2 still have at least 50% battery and USB Debugging option is switched on.
In addition to that, Clockwork Mod will have to be installed on the S2. Finally, the CM11 file and the Google Apps Package should be downloaded to your computer. Now, without further delay, you can proceed with the installation.
1. Connect the device to the computer via USB
2. Copy the CyanogenMod 11 and Google Apps packages into the SD card. Do Not Extract.
3. Unplug the device and turn it off.
4. Enter recovery mode by Holding down the volume up +power +home at the same time.
5. Once inside, backup the ROM
6. Next, select “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition.” Then choose “advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.”
7. Go back to the main menu and install CyanogenMod 11 by selecting “install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD > cyanogenMod 11 / Google Apps> confirm installation.
8. Once done, go back and select reboot system. This process will take up to 5 minutes.
By now, your device should be running on the KitKat OS. Enjoy!
