Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the brand new Galaxy S5 are not far apart in every way. The former was launched late in September last year and the latter is already out in the Korean market last week. As such, there aren’t many major changes on the S5 from the latest Note 3 phablet.
Processors and technical innovations aside, the Galaxy S5 features are almost identical with the Note 3. Both of them share the same Super AMOLED screen just like all the other Galaxy devices from Samsung. Heck, even the resolution on the S5 is equal to that on the S4. However, it is amazing on how the Galaxy S5 offer a much better display.
Samsung finally let out a secret. On papers, the S5 and Note 3 share the same screen specifications. However, the phone manufacturer revealed that the AMOLED in the S5 has evolved.
Previous AMOLED panel often suffers when operated under direct sunlight. This is due to the absence of an LED backlight. Instead, the AMOLED panels relied entirely on the LED pixels/subpixels themselves.
This is changed on the Galaxy S5. As such, this new device is able to offer 13% more brightness than the Galaxy Note 3. When science is involved, the Galaxy S5 recorded 351 nits, which is 41 more than its phablet counterpart.
On the other hand, Samsung did reveal that the S5 is capable of achieving more than 500 nits, which is where the iPhone stands. This can be really confusing. The phone manufacturer clarified the matter by revealing that the nits are automated to offer an optimized view of the display. Under bright sunlight, the S5 is capable of achieving 698 nits.
This makes the Samsung Galaxy S5 the brightest device yet. There is no competing with the device’s display prowess at the moment and things can only get better from here for Samsung.
