Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs Mega 6.3: The Big Guys

For years now, the Samsung Galaxy Note series of smartphones have been dominating the phablet market. The latest Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is a perfect example of how powerful a smartphone can be.

The Note 3 is among the best devices and now, it is challenged by a bigger newcomer, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. This latest smartphone is so much cheaper than the Note 3 but is it better?

Costing at $400, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 has a 6.3” LCD screen that produces a disappointing 233ppi. The Note 3’s 5.7” Super AMOLED screen manages to produce 396ppi. This translates to a whopping 66% more pixel density than the Mega 6.3.

Under the casing, the Note 3 is a proven device as it runs on the 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front shooter and a 3,200mAh battery. This is something that the Mega 6.3 lacks.

The larger smartphone is equipped with a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.5GB RAM, 8MP rear camera, 1.9MP front shooter and a 3,200mAh battery. In terms of speed, the Mega 6.3 is half the pace of the Note 3. Even the battery life is much poorer on the Mega 6.3. The larger screen actually means that more power will get consumers.

All in all, the Mega 6.3 has learned its position the hard way. While it was thought to be a powerful phablet, it turns out to be a mid-tier device.
