There were times when they got it just right but there are also times where we would be questioning Capcoms decision. We know that Capcom is working on the Resident Evil 7 and they did say that they have some huge planned for the game but do they really know what the fans are looking for?
One thing seems obvious, the fans do not want the whole action pack game that the Resident Evil 5 and 6 was. They want the game to have a darker and creepy atmosphere. Most importantly, the game needs to be scary once more. Those horror elements was one of the reasons why the Resident Evil franchise was so popular in the first place.
Then there is the zombie. While we like the fact that they did try to spice things up with some super zombie, there is no denying that the original, slow moving horde style zombies were the best.
What else are you hoping to see?
